History of Caioe Weyr

AIVAS was forgotten long ago, along with all of his techniques. One thing was left, however, in the dragons. They were made more intelligent, just by a small factor. The machine, now, is only a ghost in Pern’s past, and many inhabitants of the planet don’t believe that it even existed, thinking it just a myth. The attempt to push the Red Star out of its eccentric orbit has failed, slowly coming out of the orbit that it had been pushed in to, and Thread will soon be again drawn to the wonderful planet that so many call home.

As the Red Star slowly comes closer, only one Weyr believes that Thread will Fall again – a strange, solitary Weyr in the Southern Continent, in the dead middle of the large continent. Its cries for help are unheard, and so they are alone in their scurry to ready for Thread.

The Weyr was founded by one of Benden’s Junior Queens soon after AIVAS was destroyed, and named Renalla Weyr, after the Weyrwoman at the time. This started the line of the extremely strong-willed Weyrwomen, obscenely so, ending with the worst of them all - Caioe of golden Rinaeth, who was completely vain and had the entire Weyr wrapped around her fingers. She changed the Weyr to her name, and when she finally passed, it stuck.

After Caioe, plenty of Weyrwoman Impressed and betweened, the extremely strong will slowly dying down. So many turns passed, the Weyrwomen constantly changing lines, until one girl, Qinala, finally impressed, and soon became the Senior Queen. She was slightly-insane, and she made frequent deranged statements. As the Red Star drew closer, she was convinced that soon her queen would begin to lay large clutches to protect Pern from Thread – and, because of all of her insane it was the like boy who called wolf, and she wasn't believed.

This was only proved further when Wenosth kept on laying small clutches, with no queen egg. This made her Qinala slowly begin to doubt the existence of Thread, solidifying the doubt in her Weyr's minds. Qinala slowly sickened, making her dragon slowly get sick, as well, putting them both in the uncomfortable position of leading a Weyr with a weak Weyrleader, and them being weak, themselves.

In Wenosth’s final Flight, she was finally caught by a large, sturdy bronze dragon, and she had her first decently large clutch – and finally, a queen egg.

Qinala died soon after the gold dragonet impressed, and left her dragon to between till the end of time. The new Weyrwoman, Iydan, took control of the Weyr, and has had quite the time convincing Caioe again that Thread is coming. As her Aylanth’s maiden Flight approaches, she moves up to the Weyrwoman’s Weyr, currently without anyone else to manage the Weyr, as Qinala’s final Weyrleader had stepped down as soon as Iydan graduated from Weyrlinghood.

Now, with a Maiden Flight approaching and a possibility of Thread that we may just be getting our hopes up for... Iydan and the rest of the Weyr are going to have a lot to cope with!
