A little bird told me that someone had a Weyr around here! Since I’ve heard the news, I’ve seen searching high and low every day, and finally, I, AYW, am here. I want to make this my home, and I would like you to feel that my place is your home too. So why don’t you come on over and pay us a visit. We have many teas and drinks, various combinations of snacks, and we always have a friendly smile. Pay us a visit, I guarantee that there are enough couches!
    --------------------------------------

    What is AYW?
AYW is a new advertisement site for Weyrs. It began on MSN Groups, and since its closure, two people decided to begin it again on invisionfree. It is a site that welcome Weyrs of any type being run on any domain or forum.

More than just an advertisement site, we would like AYW to be a place where members of Weyrs can come together and just have a good time, play games, and meet new people. We would like to have a place where people aren’t afraid to exchange ideas or give and receive opinions on any subjects involving Weyrs, characters, and plots all in a positive attitude. It is going to be a place where role-players new and old will be able to come in and talk. In addition, we want to offer a place where role-players wanting to create their first Weyrs (or any Weyr) can come in and ask questions to get ideas and to get started, and where people will answer back earnestly.

All this to say: we want to be a community.

    How can I help out?
Spread the word. The best way to help us out at the moment is to tell other people about us and getting as many Weyrs on our site as possible.

You can help out just by joining, you don’t need to be the admin of a Weyr in order to participate on this site. We just want this to be a hangout community that any DRoP RPer (new and old) can join in. It’s also easier to find Weyrs that suit your taste when you’ve already spoken to a few people in them.

Really, communication is optional. You can help by bookmarking the site alone, and popping in every now and again!

The Senior gold rose again, and this time it was bronze Rudith, the Weyrlingmaster’s dragon, who caught Elsibeth. Tr’vas has made the switch easily, and he and Joliene are working together as if they’ve been doing it for Turns.

But shortly after this, High Reaches’ weyrling goldrider, the first one in two hundred Turns, was injured and died, and her gold went *between*. The weyrfolk were devastated.

Now they must begin again. Perhaps Elsibeth’s clutch will have another gold, or Tansith’s afterwards. Everyone will have to wait and see.

Hopefully the Lord Holders will give them the chance, though it seems unlikely. At least one Lord Holder in their territory actively works against them. And Thread should begin in a little over a year, assuming those who believe it will return are correct.

Will there be time for the Weyr to grow?

High Reaches Weyr is a PbEM/zine club set at the end of the First Long Interval. We've produced three zines already, two of them over a hundred pages. We're always looking for new members and we have plenty of status positions available - including a gold egg in the near future - if you're interested.

The website is at http://highreachesweyr.googlepages.com/index.html , and questions can be directed to me at highreachesweyr@gmail.com .

    Admins:
    Mittens
    Squid
    Onyx

    Staff:
    Desert
    Blithering Idiot
    Tiddler

    Notes:
Wings of Pern hosts several Weyrs, four at the moment (Crystal Cavern, headed by Mittens, New Cove, belonging to Squid, Talune is Onyx's territory, and Eden is Desert's oasis), each with it's own special asortment of non-canon colors. Currently we're in need of... um... a lot of stuff. We've not been open long, after all.

What We Have, and Can Offer:
    - Most of us are active, and the ones who aren't don't have long before they're kicked out, so we don't have inactive threads and characters floating around. (Unless they give us a warning, anyway.)

    - A very cool plot, but uncomplicated and it's easy to follow. (Will post below). It leaves open plenty of opportunity for your character's backgrounds.

    - Everyone is very nice, and we don't mind helping out newbies. Ask a question, and you will get a polite, at the very least (some of us are too friendly sometimes xD) answer. If it's not polite, then let someone know! 'Kay?

    - Lots and lots of open positions, including at least one Weyrwoman, several Wingleaders, and lots of other random positions (Head Woman, Head Cook, Weyrling and Candidate Masters, ect.). Well, we do have four Weyrs to fill, plus more yet to be made (for those interested in creating a Weyr, PM Mittens)... Plus there may possibly be Mod positions left.

    Plotline:
When mankind first discovered Pern, many a turn ago, they colonized a single continent, known as the South Continent. Thread drove the away from there, to the harsher climates of the North Continent. To fight the parasitic organizms that fell from the sky, eating anything that wasn't stone, metal, or water, mankind developed a creature, resembling one of myth from their home Terran. The dragons. Bonded telepathically to their riders, and witht he help of a phosphorine rich rock, they could breath fire, and so sear away the Thread. Above and beyond even this great ability, the dragons could fly, and teleport, meaning that they were capable of going anywhere on Pern, and manuevering quickly while fighting the Thread. To be a dragonrider meant to leave the life you had lead before, to show utter dedication, and to live among other riders.

As time passed man forgot their origins, struggling to with the battle againt their foe from the Red Star. Those who were not riders of dragons, held land and Hold, or made the essentials for life in Halls. Those who weren't dragonriders tithed to the Weyrs, to show gratitude for the dangerous work they did. Until a long interval occured, much longer than ever before. The red star did not return at it's scheduled time, and so turn after turn with no Thread falling, the dragonriders seemed to become obsolete. Tithing slowed, and nearly stopped, respect for those of the Weyr vanished. It was they who were called parasites instead of the Thread.

But luck would have it that one Gold and her rider knew different, were determined that Thread would soon fall again, and that they had to be ready. At her Side a Bronze, larger than anything before him, and for some time after. It was they who made it possible to survive when the Therad fell once more, and it was the Gold and her rider who discovered the ability to time as well as teleport.

With the dragonriders in good standing once more, turns came and went, and again, with time passing, came another change to Pern. The dragons were mutating, their colors ranging away from Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, and Green. Endless possibilities came, some dragons having adaptations to thier bodies, giving them a specialized task, others seemed smarter than even the riders at times. With the mutations on Pern, it seemed that nothing could go wrong.

Then once more misery struck, this time in the form of a Plague that took all of Pern by suprise. It killed thousands, riders, dragons, holders, any and everyone seemed to be at risk. Only by a miracle did anyone survive, and with numbers depleted harshly, the future looked grim.

By now botht he North and South continent were occupied, though many Weyrs turned up empty, as did Holds and even Halls. By chance and chance alone, a young queenrider made a mistake in her destination while going Between. She had been going to the nearby Hold, hoping that perhaps the Lord there would have news for her, only to find herself in an entirely new place. The East Continent was discovered. The East Continent was more wooded, heavily so, almost as if a tropical forest occupied most of the land, with three large volcanos, each long dormant, but perfect to make Weyrs in. The soil was rich, and many of the plants already growing were edible or of value for medicinal purposes. The East Continent was soon colonized, and three Weyrs were built there.

In the North four weyrs were struggling to survive, and slowly managed to get a meager grip on stability. The South fared similar, with three Weyrs of it's own. It is here that we begin, Pern overcomming a terrible plague, a new land discovered, and endless possibilites, dampered only by the fact that The Red Star is hanging in the sky, and Thread will soon fall.

So, you think you know Pern? You think you've played Pern? Dude you have no idea. Welcome to the Beginning. Telgar: The Founding is the foundation for every Pern site you have ever seen, played or dared be a member of. Set in the 1st pass when the Weyrs were still being built, the site explores the traditions, the legends and the rules that have been passed down through the ages.

Soon Telgar will have it's second flight, the Junior Gold Verath will rise. Two Wings need Bronze Wingleaders, Verath needs competitors for her flight, Wingseconds are needed all around. Candidates are needed for the forthcoming clutch and rumor says Senior Gold Imolith's next flight will be open, which means the Weyrleadership will be up for grabs.

Do you have what it takes to become a legend?

    Blaze Weyr

The Great Epidemic was devastating. Nobody knows what started it, but it spread through the whole of Pern like a wildfire. It did not seem to affect dragons, but no dragon will live when their rider has gone, so every time a rider died, yet another dragon went between forever. Pern is just recovering from this disaster. But many are dead, and those who have survived are weak. Everyone left has come together in one area, with just one remaining active weyr. Blaze Weyr.

There is but one queen that has survived, a young gold named Liyorath. She, her rider, the Weyrwoman Aria, and a handful of other riders are all that's left to protect the remaining inhabitants of Pern from the menace of Threadfall, which will be here in just a few short Turns...

Mating Flight in progress! Candidates and middle/low ranking riders needed!

    Black Obsidian Weyr

A Weyr of Hope and Change

At one point in time, there were two Weyrs; the ever growing Hadi Weyr and the dying Black Obsidian Weyr. Hadi had more Riders, plus two Golds among their Wings, while Black Obsidian had only a hand full of Riders that refused to leave and no Queen to speak of.

Hadi Weyr prospered and grew, many of its inhabitants being old Black Obsidian Weyrfolk that had transfer over to the Hadi Weyr for better protection and living conditions. The Senior Weyrwoman Kasdi and her Gold Cometh watched as her Weyr grew and was overjoyed when her Cometh started to Rise. The Flight was grand, with many of the remaining Riders from Black Obsidian coming just to watch. Yet, an interesting thing happened when the agile Brown Morth caught Cometh. Both Weyrs were overjoyed by the sight of the two dragons together and all left, leaving Kasdi and Morth's Rider, Da'im, to do as many had done before them.

After the Flight was done there was a short argument between Da'im and Kasdi over wither or not he would return to Black Obsidian Weyr, or stay with her at Hadi Weyr. In the end, Da'im and Morth returned with the other Black Obsidian Weyr Riders, leaving a broken hearted Kasdi and Cometh behind. It wasn't easy for the Brownrider to leave his weyrmate, but he had his duty to the Black Obsidian Weyr, as one of the few remaining BrownRiders left.

Soon, the bugle of an expecting Cometh came from the Hatching sands and word was sent as quickly as possible to the Black Obsidian Weyr in hopes of reaching Da'im and Morth before the young Queen had her eggs. Time was on the messenger's side as he reached Da'im in time and all where back in time to watch as the eggs were lain and Cometh wrapped around her clutch protectively until they would hatch. Sadly, when Kasdi was able to count the eggs, there were only 7 eggs, but she was happy that her Queen had produced 7 in her first clutch. Kasdi and Da'im stood together as a Weyrwoman and her Weyrleader should have, with the entire Hadi Weyr and more than half of the Black Obsidian Weyr behind them watching.

The Candidates stood before the Queen and touched the eggs, feeling the heat coming off of the them, then stepped back as the eggs started to hatch. The first to hatch was a little Bronze, sending the crowd into bouts of cheering. There was at least a chance for Bronzes to continue for just a bit longer. The next hatchling was a little Gold, which sent the crowd screaming in happiness. Da'im took Kasdi's hand and squeezed it in his excitement. Their dragons had just made it possible to continue the dragon line for the next generation. After the Gold, came a grayish, milky blue female hatchling; which would take on the rank of a Teal dragon. A fiery red female hatchling followed the Teal, earning the name of Crimson dragons. Following the Crimson female was a male Cream hatchling hatched, covered in egg slime but not even that covered up the ivory coloring of his scales. Following the Cream, and bursting from its shell was a ashen gray hatchling that started hissing and raving at it's hatchling mates, earning it the name of an Onyx dragon. Finally, the last egg hatched, showing itself to a beautiful plum hued Violet female.

The gathered crowd held its breath as it looked at the seven hatchlings, five of which were uncommon colors for dragons. It was Morth who offered the first thought, cooing to Cometh on a job well done, which seemed to snap Kasdi out of her shock and sent the Weyrwoman running to her dragon. From her position standing near Cometh, Kasdi watched as the hatchlings went to their chosen Candidate. Her attention followed the path of the Onyx hatchling, and in horror, she watched as it mauled the young Candidate, who simply took the mauling and began wrestling with the hatchling it seemed.

Turns later, after that happy day and the memories of the Impression of the five new dragonets seemed to wear off, the Weyrlings started Flight lessons under the Hadi Weyrling Master. After they were big enough, several of the new dragons went to Black Obsidian Weyr, leaving only the Bronze and Gold riders behind at Hadi Weyr.

The threat of Thread seemed high but the silvery raining death never should and the Turn went on. Kasdi and Cometh passed into the dark abyss of the Between taking with them the hope of keeping Hadi Weyr alive. The remaining Goldrider was still too young to know how to handle the position of Weyrwoman and many of Hadi's Weyrfolk and Holdfolk transfered back to Black Obsidian Weyr. Now, Da'im holds down the position of Weyrleader, waiting for the day either the new Violet or Goldriders are able to step forward and take the position of Senior Weyrwoman.

“The holders all agree that new Weyrs—“ He stopped as dramatically as N’klas might, to let the plurality be absorbed. “--must be formed.” (178)

And so the new Weyrs of Pern were announced to a Weyr overflowing with dragons. Benden and High Reaches, joined by Ista and Igen, were built first but now, as the Year numbers 33, Telgar will get her turn. Telgar was meant to protect the rich mining of the northern mountains but its' protection will prove invaluable to the farms of the fertile Dunto River Valley. Building the Weyr has come just in the nick of time, for Igen is stretched thin with protecting this region from Thread.

Now the time has come for young pairs, who know little of running a Weyr or in training a fighting wing, to step forward and claim their destiny. The Weyr is almost finished, personal weyrs are still being carved and cleaned out, daily the Hatching Sands grow closer to completion but no eggs yet grace the hot sands. Although rough and unfinished, considered a lowly cave by some, the Weyr has, or will soon have, the luxuries the older Weyrs enjoy. Higher north, with a climate colder than most people find comfortable, some folk are not happy about being assigned to Telgar. But then, some are happy to come to a place with no history, where they can become a Legend.

The dragons land daily at Telgar, bronzes and browns who gained experience at other Weyrs now come to their permanent home. Gold Imolith has risen in her maiden flight, making Bronze Navarroth's Rider Remy our Weyrleader. The eggs will soon grace the Hatching Sands and the whole Weyr waits with baited breathe to see the first true born Telgar dragons.

The only thing that remains is this.
Do you have what it takes to become a Legend, before the Legends were ever born?

The Story of Pern begins here, with you. Become a rider, to save the planet from Thread. Become a miner, explore the caverns first and have your name in history. Become weyrfolk, begin the traditions that will last for centuries. Anything and everything is possible when you a part of Telgar: The Founding.

     Nazail and green Elenath
    « Result #8 on Aug 23, 2008, 9:48pm »

    Name: Nazail
    Rank: Greenrider
    Sexual Preference: Hetero
    Age: 19
    Weyrmate: None

Appearance: Nazail is a beautiful young woman. She stands at approximately 5'6" and weighs in at 140 pounds. Her body is a bit slender with muscle tone from all of the firestone bagging she'd done as a Candidate, and not to mention Weyrling Training. She has honey-blonde hair with an abundant mix of red and brown. Her hair she likes to keep to the middle of her back. She has a medium frame and a very defined and muscled body. She has a heart-shaped face with medium sized eyes. Her eyes are her most unique feature about her. They are a darker honey color than her hair. She is mostly seen in a tunic and pants. Nazail doesn't usually dress up unless it is for a Gather or Hatching or some other occasion. She has a nice red dress that she keeps at the bottom of her travel trunk and wears that dress for those special occasions.

Personality: Nazail is a very passionate young woman. And it is most evident in her cooking. She loves to cook and it shows. She loves dragons and is very happy to have her green life mate, Elenath. She simply adores her gold fire lizard, Ranie. She doesn’t have any children, though she would like to have one or possibly two. But she knows the life of a dragon rider isn’t easy. She works hard in her dragon rider duties and as a Senior Apprentice Baker. She is working hard in her craft to become a Journeyman but isn’t in a rush.

She didn’t really have any inclination of impressing at all. It was just a bonus for her that she‘d impressed. She has an abundance of energy she uses when she’s concocting recipes and it is expressed in her voice. She has a habit of speaking a little faster than normal when she’s really excited about something. Nazail does have a temper, but she’s so good-natured that it takes a long while before she does get angry. Sometimes when she does get angry, she’s only mad for only 0.02 seconds.

Nazail has another side to her that comes out only rarely. And by rarely, means once in a blue moon type thing. She is a complete romantic. She doesn’t let it show because she perceives that to be weakness and she has a fear of that weakness. She had let that part of her get the better of her once and will not let it do it again. She keeps it under a tight control, though it does manage to show itself when her life mate rises.

History: Nazail was born as the third child of six. She was born at Forin Hold to a Journeyman Healer, Naiza, and a Journeyman Smith, Bezian. She was always on the move almost right after birth. She could not keep still for a full ten minutes. She was running with the group of children pulling pranks or finding some kind of mischief. Though she wasn’t the prank kind of child. She had never pulled a prank on anyone. She was just with them for the laughs. Or the punishment when caught, since she was with them. She loved to go for rides on runners at the age of six turns. Her oldest brother, Aizan, taught her to ride in his spare time. And she loved it every moment of it.

By the time she was twelve turns, she could ride a runner bareback and only the bridle. She would often go off on her own on a runner on rest days. She would head to the nearest beach she knew of and just lay on the beach and watch the waves of the ocean. One rest day after she’d just turned 12 turns, she had just arrived on the beach and was getting ready to lay down and she noticed an odd lump on the sand. She walked over to it and brushed at the sand, trying to level it. She’d just found a fire lizard clutch! She had a sack with her that she had with her in case she found seashells. She quickly filled the sack with the warm beach sand half way and then placed the eggs ever so gently in her sack. Once she had all thirteen eggs in the sack she fill the sack the rest of the way with more beach sand.

She hurried back home to inform her family of her find. Her mother and father picked one out of the clutch and gave it to her for finding the clutch and they handed the small clutch over to Lord Teval. Nazail took her fire lizard egg everywhere she could with her. She didn’t want to leave it alone when it hatched. And when the egg hatched, it hatched with a *pop*. And out fell a darling little gold fire lizard. It took her two days to decide on a name. She finally settled on Ranie, after her late grandmother. She spent her spare time training the little gold to be helpful and behaved. She made rapid progress with the little fire lizard.

For a few months after she’d turned 12, Nazail gave some thought to what craft she wanted to apprentice too. She didn’t want to stay at home all her life and not do anything useful. Though helping to clean and cook was useful. She settled on the Baker craft and apprenticed to the Senior Journeyman Cook. She studied hard and worked just as hard. Her gold fire lizard Ranie was a bit help in sending messages around the Hold and also alerting when a dragon arrived.

She had just barely turned 13 turns when a blue Searchrider arrived on Search for a clutch. Nazail ran out with the other Holder children and waited. She was bubbling over with the giggles and happiness when she was Searched. She readily agreed and left with the Searchrider that same day with two other new Candidates. She was completely overwhelmed when she arrived at Caioe Weyr. She quickly learned what she needed to know to survive in the Weyr and soon apprenticed to one of the Senior Journeyman cooks at the Weyr. She worked hard and made a few friends.

She wanted to help feed the people of the Weyr. So, she settled right down and helped a few other cooks with meal preparations. And then the day dawned bright and clear when the Eggs hatched. Nazail stood with the other Candidates and waited. A bright smile lit her face as the eggs rocked and cracked. One or Two of the eggshells flung broken shell pieces everywhere. The gold egg hatched and impressed, almost right away. And then… Nazail witnessed the hatching of what she thought to be the most beautiful green dragonet she’d ever seen. And impression was made.

    Rukbat rose the next day.

And Nazail’s aches and pains started. Weyrling Training! And she thought, ‘Oh, joy’. She had a bit of fun in Weyrling Training. She made a few new friends of the other Weyrlings, including a brown Weyrling. She was excited when they learned how to chew firestone and breath fire. Though she wasn’t as excited after their ‘accident’. On the second day of their training with firestone, Elenath had a little ‘hiccup’ of fire from some firestone vapors in her stomach and nearly singed Nazail’s hair! Though Nazail had kept her cool about it. The accident made Nazail and Elenath work even harder in their Training.

    Dragon's Specific Color: Green
Dragon's Age: 2, right out of Weyrlinghood

Dragon's Appearance: She's petite in build, definitely on the smaller end of things, with long sculpted limbs. Her neck has a graceful arch to it that just screams 'I'm the best.' Her facial features are very delicate and there's no arguing that she has a sort of snooty look to her. Long, narrow wings added to her lean frame make sure that this green is incredibly quick and agile in the air. As a hatchling her hide was a beautiful even shade of emerald green, but now as she’s mature it’s a dark emerald green. Her belly is a lighter shade of emerald green.

Dragon's Personality: Elenath is a rather calming influence on her rider when hers gets flustered or slightly excited. Elenath will croon softly in her life mate’s mind to calm her. Though this little green has one nagging fear of her own: losing Nazail. She often likes to think about nice things, but how can she with a bug on her nose! She hates bugs, any type. It doesn’t matter. She has a bit of a funny streak and likes to try and tell jokes. *emphasis on the word try* She loves younglings and enjoys helping them as best she can. Though she does have more of a curiosity about human younglings.

Pets: Gold Ranie, 7, is a close to the color of polished dark gold on her back top of her wings, tail, legs, and back of her neck. Her hide takes on a shining quality that seems to be of hot liquid gold on her belly, under her neck, on her head, under her wings, and even underneath her tail. She is by far the largest in her clutch. Her wings are wide and long, as is her tail being long. Her body is lithe with muscled tone that adds depth to her physique rather nicely. She is 40cm long. Ranie is not one to be trifled with. What she wants, she gets. She knows her hide is gold and she flaunts it when she gets the chance. She is on the very high end of fire lizard intelligence and is a very quick learner. She is quick to defend her Nazail and, quite interestingly, Nazail‘s Elenath. She is sometimes curious about things and will investigate them, sometimes with not so good results. She has a need for praise, and you can definitely tell she knows she deserves it!

    Other Notes: Nothing.

As you walk into the Records hall there can be seen a small, flat disc on a small table in the very center. there is a small rope fence around the table so that you cannot get too close to the disc, but when you reach the disc a vision appears above it.

It is a woman with short black hair and big blue eyes, "Hello, I am Tala of the fourteenth pass. Aivas was successful in its removal of the Red Star from the daily lives of all of those on Pern. Unfotunately, it was not to remain as Aivas had set out for it to be.

"Not long after Aivas, perhaps a dozen turns, a ship came. It was a ship filled with people from the world that had created Aivas, that had created this very record device. They came to take us away from Pern. To take us to where they believed we were meant to be. And many went with them. Holders left their homes to see this world, even some weyrfolk. Dragonriders could not go. They would not leave their mates who would not leave their home.

"In a way, this saved us. The ship left Pern, leaving a few of their original passengers who felt a need to stay with the dragons. A few days later, fire lizards rained down on us from the sky, many not living past the night. But there was a vision that they brought with them. Fire. Explosion. Death.

"The very ship that had come to save us by taking us away was destroyed by the Red Star, somehow having run into it and altering the path that Aivas had changed, forcing the Star closer to Pern. No survivors were found of that ship, save a dozen or so flits, only a few re-impressing to others still living.

"The Red Star is now closer to Pern than ever, making Passes shorter and Threadfall longer and more frequent. Pern was in a horrible state, with so many holds emptied and so many weyrs full. Weyrfolk were sent to holds to fill up the voids, and those who remained from the ship, Antars as they were called, spread out across the world, in hold, hall, and weyr.

"The Antars brought with them 'technology' but it is all but used up. Pern is back to her old states. Those with Antar blood in them are easy to find, generally having a lavender or purple tint to their eyes. However, these Antars seemed to have affected the dragons. The first clutch that hatched while they were on our planet gave way to new colors, variants at first, then whole new breeds of dragon.

"The two breeds intermingled, and there is no difference in them now save the colors. These other colors have the same ranking system as the original colors, and have no problem living with and mating with those originals.

"I have saved this record to this disc so that it may be saved beyond any that we Pernese may have been able to remember what happened to our Holds. Hopefully in time, we may get Pern back to the numbers she once knew. Keep your flights long, and your Threadfalls guarded."

And then the image of the woman fades, as if she had never even been there.
